Research interests

My work explores the literature of the long eighteenth century, and particularly the poetry of the Romantic period. I have specific interests in marginality and marginal figures, literary conjunctions and repetitions, and the idea of spectacle. I have two books forthcoming, a monograph on Wordsworth's Recapitulations with OUP, and an edited volume of essays on John Clare for the Cambridge Companions series for CUP. My other books include Representations of the Gypsy in the Romantic Period (OUP, 2014) and John Clare’s Religion (Ashgate, 2009), and I've published various articles on a range of writers from the eighteenth century and Romantic period. I am co-founder and Director of the Cambridge Centre for John Clare Studies, and speak and write on Clare for a range of audiences as part of that role.
