Professor Holt recognised in King’s Birthday Honours List

Gonville & Caius College Fellow Professor Christine Holt has received a CBE in the King’s Birthday Honours List, it has been announced.

She said on the University of Cambridge website: "I'm surprised and thrilled to receive this honour. It's a marvellous recognition of the research that has involved a whole team of talented, dedicated and inspiring colleagues over many years."

In March 2023, Christine won The Brain Prize, the world’s largest award for outstanding contributions to neuroscience for her ground-breaking discoveries and the impact these will have on health and disease.

Three alumni were honoured. Former Lord Mayor of the City of London, Alderman Nicholas Lyons (History 1977), has been awarded a knighthood. Sir Nicholas, who served as the 694th Lord Mayor of the City of London, was honoured for services to the financial sector, to the growth economy, and to financial literacy.

Department for Work and Pensions permanent secretary Peter Schofield (Geography 1988) was also knighted, becoming a Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath, in recognition of his public service.

Professor Jonathan Weber (Medicine 1973), director of the Imperial College Academic Health Science Centre and former Trust consultant specialising in HIV, has been awarded a CBE for services to global medical science.
