Schemes and events

The Caius Outreach Team is proud to run a series of schemes, programmes, and events for prospective students.

Cambridge Higher Aspirations Scheme

The Cambridge Higher Aspirations Scheme (CHAS) is open to students in year 12 who attend a state school or college in one of our link areas. It is a sustained scheme that offers academic support and enrichment, giving you the opportunity to take part in a series of six academic supervisions, summer application sessions, and a selective residential in the summer. In 2024, it is taking place between January and March, with applications opening in September 2023. You can read more here.

Caius 12

Caius 12 is a sustained programme open to students in year 12 / S5 / year 13 NI who attend a state school or college in the UK. It features five informative and interactive sessions that aim to inspire you to consider competitive universities and help you with planning the application process. Caius Explore

Caius Explore is a scheme open for entries from students in year 12 / S5 / year 13 NI who attend a state school or college in the UK. We challenge you to attempt the subject explorations designed by our academics! You might write a response to a poem, design a new product, grapple with the problems of climate change, or think about how AI might change how we study maths. We invite the authors of our favourite entries to a special event at Caius during the summer. New explorations will be posted in spring 2024 and will stay open for entries until the end of July. You can read more here.

Year 12/13 Reading Groups

Our summer reading groups are open to students between year 12 and 13 / S5 and S6 / year 13 and 14 NI who attend a state school or college in the UK. Each week, postgraduate students from the University of Cambridge guide attendees through reading and extension exercises, giving you a jump-start to deepen your subject knowledge and inspire further exploration. There's also the opportunity to ask the Admissions Tutor any questions you have about applying to university. The groups usually take place in August with applications opening in June, and have previously been delivered online. You can read more here.

Subject Taster Evenings

Our Subject Taster Evenings are open to year 12 / S5 / year 13 NI who attend a state school or college in the UK. They offer the opportunity to hear from an academic about the course at Cambridge, experience a taste of Cambridge teaching, and ask questions to both an academic and current students in the subject. We encourage students to sign up to as many as they like. In 2023, the evenings took place between April and May and were delivered online. You can read more here.
