Caius Telephone Campaign - Meet the Team

A collage of student telephone campaign callers

This year, the Telephone Campaign will run from 13 - 24 September 2023.

You can meet the student calling team below. We hope their call is as enjoyable for you as it is for them and that you will appreciate the chance to share memories of Caius, find out about the latest College news and potentially choose to support future generations of Caians.

Logan (HSPS 2021)

I am an international student from New Zealand in my penultimate year of HSPS studying Politics and International Relations. I’m incredibly grateful that my study at Caius is generously funded by a Sir Douglas Myers scholarship, which provides full funding for an undergraduate from New Zealand each year. This gratitude is one of the reasons I’m excited to be involved in the Caius telephone campaign this summer. I know first-hand the immense impact generous alumni, such as Douglas Myers, can have on current Caius students. I’m keen to share my story to encourage other alumni to support other students at Caius through various grants, bursaries, funding, and scholarships. I'm also keen to hear alumnis' stories about their time at Caius and where their lives have taken them since Cambridge. Outside of HSPS, I enjoy playing hockey for the University’s hockey club and writing articles for The Tab Cambridge. I also regularly help out with access and outreach events at Caius, and am currently the Vice President of the Australian and New Zealand Society at Cambridge. Cambridge's long holidays also gives me the opportunity to do one of the things I love most - travelling. This summer will see me head to Argentina for a month of backpacking and badly speaking Spanish."

Lauren (Law 2021)

Hi, I’m Lauren and I’m going into my final year of studying Law at Caius. I’m really looking forward to being a part of the telephone campaign again this year after all the brilliant conversations I had with alumni last year. It’s great to hear about people’s memories and experiences of the college and what life had in store for them after moving on from Caius. As a bursary recipient, the support from donors directly impacts my experience here at Caius; I’d love to chat and speak about all the wonderful work going on currently and whats in store for the future.

Faris (MML 2022)

My name is Faris, and I’m a first year MML undergraduate and Caian. Caius is a totally welcoming and comfortable place to live and work, and I’m often taken aback by the endless opportunities which every Caian is given to further their own individual pursuits. I would love to hear the experiences of alumni while they were at Caius in order to get a fuller picture of how Caius has grown and evolved over the years, and to find out what’s stayed the same! During the campaign, I’m looking forward to sharing memories of Caius with other Caians who lived in the same halls and rooms that I now get to live in. Financial assistance from Caius has allowed me to take part in activities and trips that I never would have been able to engage in otherwise, like attending a language school in Berlin or using the (still extant!) Caius photographic darkroom – for me, the telephone campaign is a way to open up such possibilities to all current and future Caians.

Liz (Theology 2021)

Hi I’m Liz! I am a Theology student at Caius, and I am going into my final year of studies I am really looking forward to being part of the 2023-2024 telephone campaign because I was part of the 2022-2023 team, and I absolutely loved talking to Caius alumni and sharing memories and experiences of our times as students here. I am really looking forward to re-connecting with many of them in this campaign."

Daisy (Classics 2021)

Hi there, my name is Daisy and I am a second-year classicist at Caius! I am also a returning caller in this year’s telephone campaign; I cannot wait to have a chat with all alumni old and new! Since last year’s campaign, I have been elected as the Station Manager and society president of Cam FM, the official student radio for the University of Cambridge and Anglia Ruskin University. Radio has become a real passion of mine, and I’m always happy to chat about the sorts of things we do at Cam FM! Likewise, I am a passionate artist, heavily pursuing illustration outside of my degree, as well as being a huge film and video game nerd. I had some really lovely conversations with many members of the alumni community last year, and am very excited about participating again in this year’s telephone campaign!

Finley (Law/History 2021)

One thing I love about Caius is the level of support on offer for students and how easy it is to access. In particular, the co-curricular grant has allowed me to participate in a range of societies, such as Caius tennis soc and the Cambridge Law Society, that I might have otherwise struggled to fully engage with. Also, as a bursary recipient I have experienced first-hand how the college aims to support all its students so that they may fully utilise their time as Caius. For me, the telephone campaign gives me an opportunity to share these kind of experiences of college life with alumni as well as listen to their own stories.

Tia (HSPS 2022)

Hi, I’m Tia and I’m going into my second year studying Human, Social, and Political Sciences at Caius. I’m the acting Freshers’ Representative as a part of the GCSU and it is my responsibility to make the experiences of the incoming students and my current year group as good as they possibly can be. I’ve loved my time here so far, and I only want to support the future years in feeling the same way. I’m passionate about Caius and want to ensure that everyone who goes here utilises it to the best of their ability, which is why being a part of the campaign is so exciting. I hope to gain an insight into alumni’s experiences here and share stories about fond memories of their time here and how more of those memories can be made with their support.

Matteo (Law 2022)

Hi! I’m Matteo, a law student going into my second year. After thoroughly enjoying my first year, which felt like a non-stop rollercoaster of lectures, supervisions, essays, socials, and formals, I’m anxious to give back to the college by helping to benefit the community as a whole through engaging with alumni via this campaign. Experiencing university life as a member of Caius has been so enjoyable and memorable whether it ranges from the people in the Caius community to the facilities of the college itself, such as the wonderful first year accommodation or the superb college library. I particularly loved the fact that my faculty was located right next door to my accommodation! What makes Caius unique is that it is a big enough college that you never feel lonely, but is small enough for there to be an enviable sense of community which runs through everything, and it's this that has made life at Caius feel so special. Throughout my first year I’ve been lucky enough to engage in several societies the university and Caius have to offer, be that Caius Law Society events, or Cambridge Union debates. I won the college’s 1st year moot and have been an active member of the University Fencing Club as well as becoming Treasurer of the Fisher House Society. I’m therefore really looking forward to being engaged in this campaign and speaking to alumni, learning how they felt the college helped them into their next steps in life, be that at home abroad, or in further study or employment. I’m also excited to compare stories about Caius and hear about how life as a Caian has changed between now and their time at the college.

Sam (History and MML 2022)

Hi, my name is Sam, I am from London and am a first year History and Modern Languages Student here at Caius. Spending my first year at Caius has been an amazing, rewarding, and action-packed experience. I love being at a college which has so many students and such amazing support to help me enjoy life outside academia as well as pursue my studies. This is one of my biggest motivations for being part of the Caius telephone campaign this year. I would love to share my own experiences as a fresher and find about what it was like in the past and how it has changed over the years. I especially want to find out what the Alumni think of the new Caius bar Friday ‘happy’ hour, and whether any of them played college mixed netball! Outside of college life, I am part of the University badminton team and competed in the Varsity first team this year. I also love travelling; the generosity of the Caius travel grant means that this summer I will be heading to Lyon to practice my French and learn more about the world of cinematography.

Lily (History of Art 2022)

Hi! My name is Lily and I've just finished my first year studying History of Art at Caius. The college has given me so much support over the last year so helping their funding is of the utmost importance to me. I would never have thought about applying to Caius if not for the excellent outreach programs they run with London State Schools. I'm now here, and able to enjoy University life with the help of the college. I started rowing last term and quickly fell in love with the sport that Caius funds have helped me to buy kit for! I am also a part of the Caius Christian Union, with my college wife being our college representative I always make sure I'm there to support her. Being a Caian has become such a key part of my identity, and I hope that with your funds we can continue to bring people into our little family.

Jermaine (HSPS 2021)

What I look forward to the most about the campaign, and I assume one of the reasons as to why it continues to run, is the opportunity it gives us as students to connect with alumni and share with them experiences that we’ve had in our time here. The commonality that can be found because of this is so rewarding.
